Cottages in Langton Matravers

Langton Matravers is a Dorset village blessed with charm and beauty. It's a very peaceful village location with old stone-built cottages aligning every corner and picturesque green fields filling the backdrop. The village has its very own museum. Tucked inside a small former coach house, the museum has over 2,500 ancient artefacts on display inside its stone-built walls.

There is a detailed history of Purbeck Marble and Limestone trade in the village here too and explanations of how it was quarried and what is was used for in the local area.

What Can I do in the village of Langton Matravers?

The Kings Arms is a popular public house to visit, serving great pub food and traditional local ales. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting, especially on a Monday evening where a Darts Night is hosted and the locals gather round for some friendly competition throwing arrows.

Where else can I find things to do nearby?

With the seaside town of Swanage a mere two miles away, travelling between the two locations has never been easier. A regular bus service connects directly to Swanage town centre and we would always recommend the scenic route on foot, as there is so much beautiful countryside to see! If this is your preference, then another great walk is from Langton to Dancing Ledge. This covers part of the Jurassic coastline here in Dorset and the Dancing Rocks there are known for appearing to dance when the tide levels change throughout the day. A magical spectacle that needs to be seen to be believed!
