Where to stay in Dorset?
So, you’ve chosen Dorset for your holiday but what’s the best location? Arguably the jewel in Dorset’s crown is the Isle of Purbeck which displays much of the county’s charm with it’s brooding, untamed natural beauty.
Located on the Isle of Purbeck is the charming seaside town of Swanage, popular with families because of its award winning Blue Flag Beach and child friendly activities. With over 50 properties located here, you are sure to find just what you are looking for.
If you fancy somewhere a bit quieter, then just to the north of Swanage is the seaside village of Studland. With over 4 miles of stunning golden beaches and sand dunes it’s the perfect spot for watersports.
Away from the coast, still on the Isle of Purbeck, you will find the thriving town of Wareham with it’s wide selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. It’s been a settlement for over 10,000 years and is now the ideal holiday location if you want to relax and have everything on your doorstep.
For those who really want to get away from the crowds you will find plenty of picturesque villages within the Isle of Purbeck to spend your holiday, including Langton Matravers, Worth Matravers, Acton and Harmans Cross.
Travel further west along the coast and you will find the tourist resort of Weymouth with its wide and shallow sandy beach that in the summer is home to sand sculptures, Punch and Judy and world class ice cream, not to mention beach sports galore! The whole family will be kept entertained in this seaside town so why not bring them along? Take a look at our Weymouth properties big enough to include everyone.
Dorset is well known for its rolling hills and unspoilt countryside, so if you fancy a bit of peace and quiet on your break, look at our selection of cottages off the beaten track in Frampton and Wimborne Minster.
One of the Jurassic coasts most defining feature is Lulworth Cove, considered to be one of the best examples of landform in the world. To the west of the cover discover the village of Charmouth and the town of Lyme Regis, both hot spot locations to go hunting for fossils.
Another stunning holiday location along on the Jurassic coastline is West Bay, well known for being the location of the popular TV series of Broadchurch. It’s a great spot to spend your holiday, with it’s long sandy beach to enjoy and a great choice of café’s and restaurants.
Situated just 1.5 miles further inland is the lively market town of Bridport, an ideal base for those who enjoy being close to the sea but want to have plenty of shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants to be able to walk to.
All properties at Wyke Dorset Cottages are non-smoking.
