There is so much to enjoy and experience on a holiday in West Dorset, so whether you are thinking of booking a short break, or your main summer holiday, here are just 5 great reasons to visit this stunning part of the region.

1.TV & Film locations

Many films and tv shows have been shot in the stunning scenery of West Dorset. Why not follow in the footsteps of your favourite film or TV stars and explore locations for programmes such as ITV’s crime drama, Broadchurch, (filmed in West Bay). Or head for Weymouth, one of the film locations sites for Dunkirk, the historic film featuring One Direction’s Harry Styles.

2. Market Towns

Dorset has some of the UK’s most attractive and interesting Market Towns and our particular favourite is Bridport, situated in West Dorset.  Dubbed ‘Notting Hill on Sea’ this quirky and lively town offers so much for holiday makers, great places to eat and drink, art galleries, all year round events and all that just a stones throw from the Jurassic coast.

3. Picturesque harbours

There are plenty of great harbours around the West Dorset location to explore, with Weymouth, Bridport and Lyme Regis all sporting picture-perfect harbours.

West Bay (Bridport) harbour is best known amongst Broadchurch fans whereas Lyme Regis is famous for its iconic Cobb Harbour wall.

4. Walkers Paradise

One of the best ways to explore the area of West Dorset is on foot. With miles of South West Coast Path to explore and spectacular walks through the Lym Valley, there is something for everyone, so get your walking boots on!

5. Great events

Whatever the weather, there is always something going on in West Dorset. From beer, music and fossil festivals, there will never be a dull moment when you're holidaying in this region. For a full list of events, check out our upcoming events page.
