Description
Situated in the heart of Bridport, one of the most vibrant market towns in Dorset, and approximately 1 mile from West Bay and the stunning Jurassic coast.
This is a wonderfully unique property which holds many period features. Rope cottage has mastered the fusion of quirky characteristics and traditional comfort, with gorgeous wooden beams and a wood burner in the lounge. Rope Cottage is part of a terrace of traditional rope worker cottages, located a few moments away from the high street and within a short walk to 'Allington Hill' owned by the Woodland Trust.
The living/dining room has some lovely features, including the beautiful stained glass doorways. Wooden latch doors are present throughout, with wood panel walls on the first floor landing, and a fireplace in the twin bedroom (not working). Downstairs is a cosy living room/dining room, with a wood burner, as well as a small kitchen and downstairs W.C. The backdoor leads to a communal area, which is historic rope walk. Steep stairs lead up to the first floor, where there is a twin room, and a spacious and well-appointed bathroom. Further stairs lead to the master bedroom, which has plenty of storage.
Bridport is a busy market town, with an eclectic mix of events and cultural activities taking place throughout the year. It has a vibrant art and foodie scene; there are various weekly and monthly markets, lots of excellent restaurants and cafes, as well as regular open studio and arts events. Surrounded by some very famous hills, there are endless walking opportunities, as well as cycle trails. West Bay is the closest beach, at approximately 1 mile from Bridport following the river across a couple of fields; with its stunning cliffs, busy harbour and recent ‘Broadchurch’ fame, there is much to explore.
Rope Cottage is located in the centre of Bridport, just past ‘Balson’s’; the world’s oldest family run Butchers! Bridport's rope trade started in the middle ages, famous for making the football nets fro the 1966 World Cup Final the town is still the world's foremost exponent of rope and net making.
