Ruth’s is a converted detached coach house which lies in the centre of Charminster, a village steeped in history and at the centre of a Conservation Area. This perfect family cottage, which is cosy in the winter and airy in the summer, is just 2 miles from the county town of Dorchester, and 6 miles from Cerne Abbas, home of the iconic Cerne Abbas giant.
Guests can expect a warm welcome upon arrival, with fresh flowers to greet you and delicious home baked treats such as cake and biscuits to tempt your taste buds. Sit back with a nice cuppa, relax and enjoy the start of your holiday.
This delightful property has several interesting features, such as the lovely double wooden entrance doors with high, pitched ceilings upstairs. Downstairs the spacious cottage kitchen/dining room has a really welcoming feel and is perfect for a family get together. The entrance hall leads to the cosy living room, with patio doors leading to an enclosed and sheltered courtyard. The family bathroom and small utility room also lead from the entrance hall. Upstairs are two bedrooms and a small cloakroom with sliding door. To the front of the cottage, a gravel drive leads to a private parking area for one car.
Just around the corner you’ll find the River Cerne, a safe and nearby source of fun for families, great for paddling and picnics. St Mary’s Church is also close by, a picturesque village church with Saxon origins.
There are two pubs and a Post Office/shop within walking distance of Ruth’s and Charminster, surrounded by beautiful countryside, is crisscrossed with footpaths leading the walker to short or long walks - ideal for dog walkers and hikers alike.
Weymouth’s award winning, family friendly beach is not far and the Jurassic coast, which has World Heritage status, offers fabulous walks and fossil hunting opportunities, pretty villages, rolling countryside and gastronomic excellence. There are also several historic houses and gardens in the area: Wolfeton House and Minterne Gardens are close by.
In the heart of Hardy country and not far from Thomas Hardy’s birthplace, Charminster is ideally situated to enjoy Dorchester’s thriving town centre, with the newly built Brewers Square, two cinemas, several museums such as the award winning Dinosaur museum, and lots of interesting shops, cafes and restaurants.

Thank you for a lovely few days in this comfortable cottage. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay - everything we needed we found. Perfect location for visiting Dorchester, going on walks and visiting our relatives. Clean; excellent facilities and lovely Christmas decorations.
Thank you for the absolutely beautiful Christmas decorations. Our first impressions on coming in totally blew us away. The cottage is clean, cosy, festive and welcoming. The perfect setting for our family Christmas, it was great to cook in the lovely kitchen and we had everything we could possibly need.
A lovely comfortable spacious and well equipped cottage. Thank you for the treats (apple cake was delicious). We were visiting relatives so haven't been exploring other than some pleasant walks/runs around the village.
Thank you for a lovely stay @ Ruth's Cottage. Great hosts and a lovely base to explore the area.highly recommend the Crabhouse Cafe on the way to Portland.

Lovely owners - provided not only goodies on arrival, but some veg from their garden! So thoughtful
This was an exceptionally well equipped cottage, spacious and comfortable. There were many thoughtful extras in cupboards and drawers; games, colouring materials, biscuits, cake, coffee and tea.
Wonderful, helpful hosts. Cottage provided with many thoughtful touches.
The property is well equipped and well kept with a very personal touch. Guests are made very welcome. An ideal place for walking the dog in the country side, at the same time located in walking distance to the county town Dorchester.
A lovely place to holiday and the cottage was very good all round.

We have spent an enjoyable few days in your lovely cottage. Thank you for all 'the goodies' and the good weather!
Had a short but very full few days. Ruth's was absolutely lovely - great location, very cosy, just right. We have walked to The Gamekeeper, had a nice meal and were given some great tips for crabbing and fossil hunting. Recommend a trip to Charmouth for the fossils, followed by to West Bay for crabbing and Portland Bill for the view and cream tea. Hope to be back soon.
Thank you so much for letting us stay. We have had a lovely time and the cottage was very beautiful and delightful to stay in. Also thank you for the little treats especially the delicious cake. Many thanks
