Autumn in Dorset
When the summer rush has dispersed, Dorset is the perfect place for an autumn holiday or short break. The hustle and bustle goes back to school with the children and makes way for quieter beaches, pleasant strolls and a slower pace. The weather is still warm and the days are still long. Perfect for walking the South West Coast Path, discovering vast countryside and stumbling upon deserted beaches.
Although quieter, Swanage still puts on a good show. For music lovers there is plenty to keep you entertained with the Purbeck Chamber Music Festival taking place on 29th–31st August. The following weekend, Swanage hosts the annual Folk Festival (5th–7th September). As well as music line-ups in venues around Swanage throughout the weekend, you can also find trade stalls and arts and crafts, along with a Ceilidh to dance the night away on the Saturday evening.
The Swanage Blues Festival arrives in Swanage on 3th-5th October. Taking place twice a year, crowds flock to the south coast to visit this much loved music festival and party with over 100 musicians across multiple venues.
For those wanting to explore the local countryside and be at one with nature, the Swanage Walking Festival takes place between 20th–28th September. With a range of walks planned throughout the week, walkers of all abilities will find something to suit.
Wyke Dorset Cottages has 50+ properties centrally located - perfect as a base for visiting each of these events, most within a short walk to the centre of the town, and with easy access to the South West Coast Path.
