This beautiful and unique property has seen various changes of use over the years. Originally believed to be a farm stable building, it subsequently became a Quaker Chapel in Victorian times and more recently a taxi stand, petrol station and garage. Now it has been lovingly transformed into a stunning home whilst maintaining lots of original features.
Hidden behind wooden gates, step into a stunning orangery with high ceilings, cobbled floor and feature vintage spiral staircase. At the rear two former stables have been converted into double rooms, both with en-suites. A wooden staircase leads to a balcony overlooking the orangery and entrance to the open plan dining area with wood burner and kitchen.
Above the kitchen and overlooking the living area, sits a mezzanine bedroom with day bed that converts to a double bed with reduced height beams. At the rear a living room with sofa bed and bi-fold doors leads onto a decked patio with palm trees overlooking the pretty rear garden.
The centre of town and sandy beach are a ten minute walk away, it's also just a ten minute walk to open countryside and Durlston Country Park.
Bedroom 1) ground floor with double bed, en-suite bathroom with shower over bath, and stable doors leading to garden and undercover seating area 2) ground floor with zip and link 2ft 6 beds (can be joined to create a king size bed), en-suite shower room and double doors leading to garden and undercover seating area, 3) single day bed with trundle pull out to create an additional double on mezzanine level overlooking open plan dining area and kitchen. Swanage is a great place to visit.
Loved the property, beautiful place. Great find.
Beautiful quirky cottage perfect for a family holiday. The children loved it! Only 10 mins walk to the beach and 1 min walk to a lovely pub with great food!
Fabulous quirky house! ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great house very well equipped and comfortable, really quirky layout which worked well for our party (the kids loved playing hide and seek) 10 mins walk to beach and next to a great pub. (Book Sunday lunch it gets busy) Really great stay.
The Glasshouse was a lovely, quirky cottage. It was very nice, clean, well furnished and well equipped. We enjoyed our stay very much. We come to Swanage every year and for the last 2 years we have booked one of your cottages. I find Swanage is not particularly dog friendly but you have cottages that do accommodate dogs. Both cottages have been wonderful and very unusual. We will be booking again next year.
Very comfortable and well appointed cottage. Quirky and interesting, we had a great stay. Would highly recommend the Glass House for a holiday at any time of the year, we will certainly book again.
It was a wonderful holiday in a charming seaside town which is as friendly as it is unpretentious. Wyke are a good company and their contact lawrence was a fantastic help and very prompt in responding to any issues we had such as coming round to look at door which was sticking and checking an extractor fan in kitchen. He is an asset to Wyke. The standards of cleaning are exemplary... I tried to find dirt... There wasn't any... It was spotless just how we love it.
The Glass House was a home from home, we loved and appreciated the quality of the renovation and attention to comfort detail as well as the location. The kids loved it ... so always a bonus!
